This edition buy the Tuesday Stuff Guy (for Boudon)
Well, we had a very nice clear but cool night to get all our seniors to the Community of Christ Hall for the Annual Senior Dinner. No snowstorm to mess up anybody’s travels this year, so we got off to a great start. Sometime after 6 everybody started filing in to the usual beautiful holiday - decorated hall. Tables were set up in long rows this year as a change, with very nice green and red tablecovers with votive candles and holiday napkins and other stuff. I think about 120-ish in all made the trip, 28 from the club, great turnout folks!
Of course the big talk on everybody’s mind was the big game Friday. Probably not a bigger deal in our town in as many years as I can remember, so many were talking about making the trip to Massillon Friday. (Was anybody actually going to be in K-Town at 11 AM on Friday?)
Dinner consisted of a delicious meatloaf (whoever made it sure knew how!), mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon, jello, rolls and sherbet with holiday cookies for dessert. Noticeably absent and missed was our ringmaster Dice, who gave the organizational duties of the evening to a very able Rick Blum. Seems Tom’s wheels just couldn’t get him there (by wheels I mean the ole’ bum knee). We wish you well, Tom, getting yourself back to speed…
Our Master of Ceremonies was new member Bruce Sandacz (GREAT JOB by the way!!), who welcomed everybody, then words of inspiration by President Ed, along with the Pledge and America. (I’m probably out of order here with the sequence of how it all happened, but you get the picture I am sure).
After dinner we were serenaded by the Barbershop Quartet Curbstone Harmony, who performed for the second year running. At one point they were competing with the Parade beginning just outside our very building, but everybody seemed to enjoy the songs that were sung.
After the musical interlude the microphone was passed around the room for introductions of each Kiwanian and their guests, and we welcomed residents from Heartland of Mentor and also Golden Living Center right here in town. Following that we were treated to Santa and Mrs. Claus, courtesy of Chardon Club Member Dan Moon and his wife Helen, who give of their time each year to help our club have this really nice party. Gifts were passed out to each guest before the gala came to a happy ending.
THANK-YOUS in order (If I forget anybody you can just shoot me this Thursday):
Rosa Brettrager and her crew from The Community of Christ Church, who provided us with the excellent meal we ate, The Builders Club members, 11 in all, who provided great service, Tom Dice, who planned the event with his usual expertise, Rick Blum, who filled in for Tom and organized the seating that night, Bruce Sandacz, who, with wife Bev, took care of the gifts, and the MC responsibilities, Dan and Helen Moon, and each Kiwanian who brought their guests. Like I said, if I forgot anybody, my apologies…
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
This week is Citizen of the Year. A Spouse Night. If you are bringing your spouse or guest please let this writer know so I can plan properly. By the way, we are eating Roast Beef, Au Gratin Potatoes, Glazed Carrots, Minestrone Soup and Apple Pie for dessert.
Don’t forget to keep the donations coming for the Old South Food Bank and also the Ohio Kiwanis First Lady’s Project. Remember, also, to record your volunteer hours so John can get us recognized for them.
Well, that’s all for now, I think I got it all, if not, look in Tuesday Stuff tomorrow for the rest of it.
Have a great day, stay warm and dry. Remember, at least it’s not snow.
